1999 Tamika Reggae Awards |
||
Announcing |
For
the second time in its eleven-year history, and due to
the tremendous national and international media response,
the Tamika Reggae Awards has brought in an outside public
relations company. The firm Barfield Public Relations,
Inc., headed by Pauline Barfield, is now in charge of all
media aspects of the Eleventh Annual Tamika
Reggae Awards. Barfield Public Relations, Inc.
is one of the most experienced minority owned public
relation firms operating in New York City, with a client
list that includes McDonald's Tri Star Pictures, The New
York City Housing Authority, Pfizer Pharmaceutical, BET,
Aaron Davis Hall and First National Films. The Eleventh Annual Tamika Reggae Awards is scheduled for Friday, April 2, at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. The media's feedback to America's premier Reggae award presentations, is too overwhelming for Clinton Lindsay and his IrieBeat Productions staff. Mr. Lindsay, the founder of the awards, has always been the main public relation administrator since the inception of the awards back in December of 1988. For the seventh presentation in 1995, at the Town Hall, he was forced by the tremendous media response to hire an outside public relations firm. The latest nominees to be added to the performance list are conscious singer JAHMALI, and several times Tamika Reggae Award winner, SISTER CAROL. The Most Promising Artist of the Year nominee, JAHMALI, will be making one of his rare New York appearances. His Donovan Germaine produced debut album, El Shaddai, was rated by many critics as one of the most conscious albums of 1998. Singles like "21st Century," "Real Issues," "Hungry People," "Mother's Cry," and the title track, were fixtures on radio play lists across the United States. Before branching out on his own, JAHMALI toured with Buju Banton for a couple of years. SISTER CAROL was a presenter at the first Tamika Reggae Awards at the Beacon Theater. Since then, she has attended most of the presentations, except when she was on tours. With two nominations, Outstanding Artist of the Year-Female-National and DJ of the Year-Female, this will be her first performance ever. |
