Protest from Death Row

Mumia Abu-Jamal, a former Black Panther member and supporter of MOVE, has been on death row in the Huntingdon State prison since July 3, 1982.

On the fateful day that led to his incarceration, Mumia left his taxi to intervene in an incident when he saw a policeman, Faulkner, beating his brother with a flashlight. Faulkner had stopped a VW in which two men were riding because the driver had made an illegal turn onto a one way street. When Mumia approaches the scene, the policeman is fatally shot. Mumia is shot in the abdomen.

Mumia protests his innocence. He was shot by Faulkner when he approached the scene and a heavy set man in the VW fatally wounds police officer Faulkner. Veronica Jones, a witness with a murky background, states that after the shooting, two black men jogged away from the scene.

Did Mumia shoot Faulkner and stand over him and shoot him twice?

Judge Sabo [Judge Dread], the presiding judge over Mumia's case has sentenced more convicted men to death than any other living judge. Mumia, an investigative journalist, wrote several articles in the 70's and 80's on Philadelphia police brutality and corruption by Philadelphia city officials.

Can a black man with Mumia's background be given a fair trial? Do Mumia's previous activities preclude a fair trial?

Do the Philadelphia police wear "police brutality" like a chip on their shoulder?

What is the level of reasonable force that a police officer should use to protect himself and stop the perpetration of a crime?

A search of the Internet will reveal a wealth of sites that have information on how to register your protest, the case, the trial, Mumia's writings and videotapes as well as stickers, buttons, posters and T-Shirts.
