Edited and Abridged Interview with Sister Carol

Lister: "We at Saturday's A Party and the Clappers website would love to take this opportunity to (1) thank you Sister Carol, for being the star that brightened up the dark skies of the 4 Day Reggae Marathon"

(wait a minute Lister- what the hell do you mean "dark skies". The only "dark sky" was the one outside the window of WUSB's studios while Sis was sweet on the mic inside! - Kibret).

[Lister continuing unabashed]: "You wholeheartedly were the true spirit why we did it and need to keep doing this marathon reggae weekend, (2) congratulations on one of Carol Cooper's best Village Voice article on Sister Carol entitled 'Strong and Fit'. She spoke the truth and captured your essence. This article will be posted on the Clappers website, (3) congratulations for being nominated for a Tamika Reggae Award and, are you ready for this!! creating history not only on the Four Day Reggae Marathon but the GRAMMYS!! What Michael Rose did many years ago you have now taken to a better and higher height. Sister Carol broke the barrier. The first woman nominated for a Grammy for reggae music, (4) plus featured in the Friday, Jamaican Star coverage of the Clappers website WUSB's FOUR DAY MARATHON REGGAE WEEKEND that really ended on the 5th day. Well Carol- what next, your own cable channel? You could corner the world in less than four weeks. I have never seen this with any reggae artist/activist before!!

Sister Carol: "Well Lister, first I must interrupt you. The first woman was Judy Mowatt, then Rita Marley, then Sister Carol".

Lister: "Well, I was really seeing you winning it. I know if the Grammy wants to reclaim their credibility they should give it to you".

Middle of interview ...

Sister Carol: Well I must give praises to Jah, my family, Dino, all my fans, support to WUSB 90.1 FM Stony Brook for all these good things. I'm a trooper, and couldn't do it without your support".

Lister: Sister Carol, in celebration of my twenty seven and a half years of broadcasting reggae, I would love to have you appear as a guest on Saturday's a Party - a three hour simultaneous live broadcast and interactive conference on the Clappers Website".

Sister Carol: "Ah yes! Yes! Set it"!

Lister: Now Sister Carol I'm going to dedicate a special tune to you my favorite by none other than the GAYLETTS (sic) and you know featuring..."

Sister Carol: "Sister Judy Mowatt! One thing I must ask you. You know we all in Jamaica grew up listening to the same tunes. Lister, how did you know that's a special tune for me? When I first heard that tune for the first time in JA I knew what I was going to do, I want to do that. It touched me, changed me. It is extra special. Boy Lister you good. How did you know that?"

Lister (laughing): It had the same effect on me. That's why I pulled it just for you..."

Mike MacDonald

I was listening to this show and must correct Lister on a two points he made on the air!

After his interview with Sister Carol, he went on to state that it was Philip Smart and Sister Carol who first started to have live performances on a radio station, but that is incorrect. It was Bingy Ron, and myself, Jah Mike, who FIRST did this at WRHU (Hofstra University) with Silver Fox, Sister Carol, the Great Jah Life, Love Roy, Mikey Jarrett, Bobby Culture, Louie Rankin, Brimstone, and nuff more! This was back in the early eighties.

SECOND point: It was me Jah Mike who first brought Sister Carol and the Great Jah Life to WUSB for the station's FIRST live performances!

Percy Lockatoot (Spanish Town, Ja)

I just got a cassette copy from NY of this show [Saturday's a Party 1/25/97]. This Michael McDonald reminds me of Star Kist Tuna [AKA Charlie]. He's out of his element. Get back in that can. Your wax will fall out of your ears, and you'll swim better. I repeat, for the world to know, that the statements that you attribute to Lister are incorrect! Lister gave full credit to the great Phillip Smart, so go pick your fight with him. Self praise is no recommendation. In reggae music, we don't deal with the school of hard knocks. We bypass that. That's because we survived the Clappers Terrordome [Clappers OnLine Conference]. If you weren't born yesterday, then show me the reggae, you Jerry Maguire!
