L.K.J. Sey ...

"I attended Tulse Hill Comprehensive School in Brixton from 1963 to 1970, and entered Goldsmith's College, University of London, 1973. Graduated with a degree in Sociology. In January 1977, I was awarded the Cecil Day-Lewis Fellowship and since then, I have been a writer-in-residence in the borough of Lambeth, and Library Resources and Education Officer at Keskidee Arts Centre".

" I have been very active politically. After school, I joined the Black Panther Movement to pursue the Liberation of Blacks from Colonial oppression, and am now associated with the Race Today Collective in Brixton . I have written extensively on Jamaican popular music for Black Music and Melody Maker and have performed to acclaim in Europe, Japan, Canada, United States, and of course England and Jamaica. As a result of a conversation with Lister, who was responsible for 'breaking me in' in the U.S., he [Lister] suggested that I start a new label 'call it L.K.J. Records', I remember him saying. So I signed Michael Smith, and we released the milestone Reggae records Me Caan' Believe It and Roots." .
